|3 min readWhat's Actually in Your Sales Tool Belt?
I walked out of my due diligence review today with one crystal-clear takeaway:
My sales tool belt needs more tools — and sharper ones.
As part of the Master of Business Creation program at the University of Utah, we regularly sit down with mentors, faculty, and evaluators who challenge every part of our business — the positioning, the value, the systems, the pitch, the financials, the way we communicate, all of it.
It's the kind of pressure that exposes blind spots fast. And today, one of mine was obvious:
I need to build a stronger, more intentional sales engine. Not "hope the right clients find me," not "respond when things hit my inbox," but a truly equipped tool belt that helps Bravo Estates communicate clearly, follow up well, and convert consistently.
So I'm turning to the pros — founders, operators, sales leaders, builders — for the tools that actually moved the needle for you.
1. What resources legitimately sharpened your sales skills? Books, audiobooks, frameworks, YouTube channels, scripts, courses — the ones that led to real behavior change, not just good quotes.
2. Controversial question: does texting with a blue bubble vs a green bubble actually matter when dealing with clients? I've heard both sides. Some swear blue bubbles close deals faster. Others say it's superstition. Your take?
3. Which CRMs are worth using — and which ones are total dumpster fires? When did you automate? What did you automate first? What was a waste of time? Which CRM gave you superpowers — or trauma?
4. What's one sales skill you intentionally built — and how did you build it? Follow-up cadence. Discovery questions. Positioning. Objection handling. Building urgency. Pipeline discipline. Personalized outreach. Which one changed the most for you?
5. What are the underrated tools most people never talk about? A note-taking hack. A DM strategy. An AI workflow. A friction-removal habit. A niche Chrome extension. I want those too.
This due diligence process pushed me — in the best way — to refine how I think, how I operate, and how I grow Bravo Estates. And I know this next step — strengthening my sales foundation — is critical to serving clients at a higher level.
So I'm asking: what tool, book, strategy, automation, mindset shift, or random technique helped you level up your sales game?
I'd genuinely appreciate your insight. Let's crowdsource something better than any textbook.
